Freeze, shutdown, and depression, at their core, have one thing in common: an inhibition of our vitality.

When the nervous system and psyche perceive our vitality as a threat, they respond by suppressing it, leaving us feeling stuck, disconnected, and depleted.

In this workshop, we will explore how to support the repair of the nervous system after trauma and our shift from depression into a felt sense of aliveness.

Through somatic practices, emotional energy work, and soul-guided healing, you will receive insights and tools for how to work with your body, reconnect with suppressed energy, and uncover the rich potential for transformation hidden within these states.

"Your guidance has helped me immensely. I feel that my mental and emotional state has improved a lot, and it happened in the best moment in my life. In certain ways my whole mindset shifted and I learnt a new approach. It works! I'll be using the methods you taught us."

"Effie's course has been life changing for me. I decided to join because of her philosophy, her story and because I felt that she'd 'get' me. She broke down complex information so it was understandable, gave me tools to support myself with my cPTSD, anxiety and depression, and she offered persistent and reliable guidance. There has been such a transformation for me and I'm in a totally difference place compared to where I was before."

Freeze and shutdown, the most delicate and complex nervous system responses, take us into immobilisation and in a state of suppressed vitality.

Beneath them there are layers of hidden energy, and although inaccessible for now, it's waiting for the right conditions to emerge.

This is why freeze and shutdown require care that honours their intelligence while guiding toward gentle repair.

Just as freeze and shutdown protect us by pulling us inward, depression can sometimes serve a similar function. A form of depression can be a sign of an inner creative process—a deep restructuring of the psyche, guiding us through an experience of death and rebirth.

Painful yet significant, this kind of depression can serve as a threshold, a transition into something new. But without the right understanding, we can become stuck here, unable to move toward renewal.

In this workshop, we will explore freeze, shutdown, and depression not just as experiences to "fix" but as profound somatic and psychic processes that call us toward something meaningful.

Through the lens of neuroscience, somatic healing, and analytical psychology, we will uncover the wisdom within them—and learn how to work with them to restore vitality, and a deeper connection to ourselves.

What we’ll explore:

  • The Difference Between Freeze & Shutdown – Understanding these nervous system responses and how they manifest differently in the body.

  • Functional Freeze – The experience of our nervous system when we live in freeze while remaining fully functional on the outside.

  • Somatic Approaches to Freeze & Shutdown – How to engage with the body differently depending on whether we’re in freeze or shutdown.

  • Shame as an Inhibitor of Life Energy – How shame locks us into states of immobility and how to shift out of it.

  • The Suppression of Anger, Power & Healthy Aggression – Why our body may experience our own power as a threat and how to reclaim it.

  • Learned Helplessness & Developmental Trauma – How early experiences of powerlessness shape our nervous system and sense of agency.

  • The Archetypal Experience of Depression – The key elements of depression that can guide us to the depths of our unconscious.

  • Creative Depression: When the Psyche is Calling for Transformation – Exploring depression as a creative psychic and somatic process of death and rebirth.

  • Three Somatic Practices – Practical tools to support the integration of the workshop learnings.

"Effie helped me get to the core of my problem, gave me tools to transcend it, and techniques to help me feel and release emotions I used to shut down out of fear. She helped me feel ‘whole’ again. To anyone thinking of working with Effie, I'd say do yourself a favour and do it. She's been incredibly helpful to me and I will always be grateful the universe sent her my way."

This workshop is for you if:

You feel as if life is happening around you, but you're not fully in it. You might struggle to feel joy, motivation, or a sense of direction, caught in a cycle of exhaustion, procrastination, or isolation.

You may experience:

  • A constant sense of heaviness—like moving through life with an invisible weight on your body.
  • Mental fog and fatigue that make even simple tasks feel overwhelming.
  • Struggles with motivation—you want to move forward, but something in you feels frozen.
  • A tendency to withdraw from social interactions, even though part of you longs for connection.
  • Difficulty accessing anger or healthy aggression, leading to passivity or suppressed frustration.
  • A deep, unresolved sense of shame, as if something is inherently wrong with you.
  • Feeling invisible or unseen, as if your presence doesn’t really matter.
  • A longing for vitality and aliveness, but not knowing how to access it.

You want to:

  • Reconnect with your body’s energy and inner power instead of feeling numb or drained.
  • Understand why you feel this way—not as a personal failing, but as a nervous system and psyche response.
  • Learn tools to gently shift out of freeze and shutdown without overwhelming yourself.

  • Find meaning within your experience of depression, seeing it as part of a larger process.

  • Move from passive survival to a felt sense of agency, creativity, and vitality.

If this resonates, this workshop will offer you the tools, insights, and guidance to navigate freeze, shutdown, and depression in a way that honours your system while gently inviting transformation.

This workshop reflects my over 1,600 hours of somatic, nervous system, trauma and coaching training, combined with my hours spent in client work.

It also embodies the work that has radically transformed my life after years of living with cPTSD, anxiety and functional depression.

All materials and practices are based on Dr. Gabor Mate’s approach to trauma healing, in Somatic Experiencing and in the Polyvagal Theory. The soul work aspect is influenced by Carl Jung & analytical psychology, as well as my own teachings.

This is why I’m excited to teach you this somatic, energetic, soul-based and radically compassionate approach to awakening your vitality that honours the whole of you and your life's story.

"This course has opened a warm, comforting and inspiring door for me not only to learn and understand a lot more about myself and my struggles with anxiety, shame, fear and self-doubt, but also taught me there are tools beyond awareness to grow and nurture myself. Effie's clarity and insight is a priceless and abundant gift. Can’t recommend Effie and her course enough!"

Jonny Benson

"Effie is a great teacher and day by day I see small changes in me. Before I met her I thought everything was my fault and that I was not worthy of being loved or feel happy, but now I see that I can create a better future."

Caroline Enmark

"The most important benefit from my coaching with Effie is that I’m more confident about what I can achieve. Working with Effie has been a catalyst for me and I love the person I’ve become."

Katerina Papavasileiou

"Effie was very attentive to all things coming up during the coaching calls and all participants really showed up for each other, learnt from each other, and provided a safe space to be vulnerable. I really felt like myself in the group."

About me

What’s led me to what I do today is a story that started when I was 10 and experienced trauma that involved family loss and mental dis-ease. Back then the stigma of mental health was even worse than it is today and, as a result, I spent my childhood feeling a lot of shame. This painful experience motivated me as an adult woman to go on a path to figure out how people can heal and live good lives after trauma.

It's come as no surprise that I've become a trauma educator and somatic coach supporting people privately and in groups. I have been trained in Dr. Gabor Maté's somatic-based approach to trauma healing, completed the Polyvagal Theory Certificate, have been certified as a High Performance Coach, and I'm also currently training in the last year of Somatic Experiencing.

Through my studies and training, my work with hundreds of clients privately and in a group setting, and my personal transformation journey, I've seen again and again that with the right tools, guidance and community we can recover from trauma, feel better and live better.

I’m also a corporate trainer having run workshops on resilience, mental health and performance for organisations such as NatWest and The Centre for Entrepreneurs.

What nourishes me is the sun, the sea and meaningful conversations with friends. I hate small talk and I'm fascinated by people's life stories. In my free time, I love writing poetry and fiction, and travelling.
